VanLife Craze

Like many people living or traveling on the road, we too started with a van and suddenly realized that even though it looks great on instagram, we wanted so much more. Simply put, there just isn’t enough space to “live.” It felt more like we were just surviving.

Fast forward a few years in our search for the next vehicle to convert and behold the beautiful Unicell BoxTruck on a Ford Transit chassis. The idea of building out something with square walls and more than 6 feet of headspace changed everything!

We were now able to have a full size Murphy bed, large kitchen, full sized fridge and freezer, dedicated workstation, massive kitchen space along with a 48”x24” wet bath with dual shower heads.

More Space Less Wheelbase

After experiencing a year traveling around in our Van Box Truck we realized that the small gas engine wasn’t cut out for the amount of weight we needed to haul around. We also felt that the 7’ wide walls were too cramped and we wanted a but more room in the lounge. The most important downfall was the long wheelbase which came with it’s massive turning radius.

That all changed when we switched to a cab over truck with a Diesel engine. Not only did our wheelbase shrink by nearly 3 feet, but we gained a foot of width and height. Although the height wasn’t necessary, we utilized the space by installing a drop down elevator bed and we raised the floor in the rest of the truck to store gear and hide the electrical and power systems and their needed connections.

We’re a bit on the tall side at 11’6” but 99% of the places we’ve traveled we had no issue.
